In which case I'd say entropy is the house--you need it to have a venue in which to play, but in the end it always wins.

Evolution Gap - Where's the Fur?
by shadow inevolution paints human ancestors covered with fur.
fur has several benefits as stated by britannica "the pelts of fur-bearing animals are called true furs when they consist of two elements: a dense undercoat, called ground hair, and longer hairs, extending beyond that layer, called guard hair.
the principal function of ground hair is to maintain the animal’s body temperature; that of guard hair is to protect the underlying fur and skin and to shed rain or snow.".

[Generic evolution vs. creation thread]
by sir82 into save us all a lot of time and effort..... [some complex structure in living organisms described].
[i can't imagine how this could be the product of evolution].
[therefore god created it].

I couldn't imagine how an electron could sometimes behave like a particle and sometimes behave like a wave. Then I read a book (well, a number of books) written by scientists writing in their field, summarizing the results of thousands of experiments.
(And now I'm more confused than ever, but that's just Quantum Mechanics--if Quantum Mechanics makes sense to you, then you don't understand it.)

Consider a poker tournament, if you have any familiarity with them... There is much variance in a poker tournament, and the largest ones can have thousands of entrants. The "best" poker players aren't guaranteed to win, but they have a much better chance of winning than the 97-year-old guy who is playing his first tournament. When they get down to the final players, the majority of the final-table players are the ones who were considered the "best" tournament poker players before it started.
It seems like you have this idea that if we could number the snakes from 1 to 10,000 in order of "fitness," we should see them finish in precisely that order in a mating contest, and anything else disproves evolution. That's just not how it works.
Consider this scenario (I'm not saying this is what happens, just making something up based on the article): Let's say you have a snake that is much stronger than the others; when he wraps himself around something, he can squeeze with more force than the other males. In these mating balls, the males wrap around the female and she rolls to get them off her. Maybe the rolling process is to test for the stronger males, since she won't be able to roll them off. Or in a related scenario, maybe the "fittest" males are the ones with more endurance. The weaker males get tired quickly after being rolled off the female a few times and they give up. But the fitter males have more endurance and they get to mate because they don't give up as quickly. In these scenarios, these fitter males, who may be in a mating ball with 100 other males, don't have a 1/100 chance of mating (which, as you say, would seem to negate his "fitness advantage")--they have more like a 1/10 chance or something like that.

I'm also less inclined to move fast if I'm badgered because, well, I'm just like that. Patience is a virtue.
Besides, now that tsunami has posted this, the rest of us needed time to go through 11 years of his posts to find the embarrassing one.

Jacobm, the article said there can be up to 10,000 snakes total in these hibernation dens, but each "mating ball" consists of one female and "dozens" of males.

The problem of sex (or why I'm not an atheist)
by EdenOne inas i write this under the shadow of the walls of saint jorge's castle in lisbon, two very bored jws are standing just five metres away from me with a literature cart .... in my journey away from jwism i accepted evolution as a fact.
i also became anti-religion, agnostic and apatheist.
and, while i lean towards the persuasion of the atheist arguments, there are a few reasons that make it difficult for me to completely discard the notion of an intelligent origin of life.

Vidqun -- it's easy to put individual processes into words, then using connectives to put them all together. It's a completely different matter demonstrating the overlapping and/or merging of these processes in real life. I would be interested to see it demonstrated from A-Z.
I would love to see each and every step demonstrated, as well. While we're at it, why don't we create a big bang and watch a universe undergo inflation then expansion, etc. Unfortunately we don't have this available to us right now, and some things we probably never will.
I'm not really applying the following to you, since I'm not active enough to know your story or personal theolgy, but what I find interesting about people who say they won't believe in XYZ (abiogenesis, the Big Bang, etc.,) is that they're often very selective in which issues they demand such complete proof for. When people start demanding proof, step-by-step and in excruciating detail, I'll often say, "I'm not sure how much detail you want, so why don't you tell me how God did it, and I'll use exactly as much detail to explain how it happened naturally."

People hate God?
by looter init is a pain that certain individuals pride themselves on hating god, who created everything.
like it's understandable that you choose to not believe in him because of your selfishness or thinking skills but to hate him is forcing it a bit.
i'm very thankful that those such as myself have the courage to believe in the lord.

You seem to have an uncanny ability to read the hearts and minds of people you've never met. Is it that voice in your head telling you these things? How often do you hear this voice? Does this voice ever tell you to harm yourself or others? Do you have children? Does this voice ever tell you to harm (drown) your children, as other Christians have done at the behest of this voice? When you read about Abraham being willing to brutally kill his own son, does this voice in your head say, "Yes, kill... kill."?

"If the Earth were just a little bit further from or closer to the Sun, we would all freeze or burn"
by Island Man ini'm sure we've all heard this argument by theists employing the fine-tuning argument.
are you aware, however, of exactly how much this "little bit" really is?
theists would have us think that the slightest change in the distance would have drastic implications for survivability.

Yes I find the finely tuned universe factoid to be hilarious. The same people fail to grasp the fact the finely tuned earth will one day be swallowed up by the finely tuned Sun when it becomes a finely tuned red giant...
The remnants of which will one day be swallowed up by a finely-tuned supermassive black hole, which will eventually dissipate via finely-tuned Hawking radiation until the universe is nothing but a featureless void, brought about by the finely-tuned expansion of the universe.
As for life... our earth is in a Goldilocks zone relative to producing our kind of life, but we don't even know that carbon- and water-based life is the only form of life possible. Carbon is a very versatile element, but it's not the only one that can form multiple bonds with a variety of other elements.
I also find it ironic that the people who usually make this "fine-tuned for life argument" believe the "real" form of life is an immaterial soul that doesn't even need a physical body.
